Simard & Associates is looking for a lawyer who practices in the fields of Family Law and Civil Litigation. The person who will occupy this position will work closely with a team of experienced lawyers and legal assistants.
The candidate will potentially have the option to join our team with their existing legal assistant, which would be discussed during the interview.
Provide services to clients in the areas of Family Law and Civil Litigation;
a. Meeting with clients;
b. Communication with clients;
c. Receive, review and prepare correspondence for lawyer review;
d. Drafting of Wills and Estate Applications for lawyer review;
e. Assist in the preparation of corporate transaction documents such as purchase and sales of businesses, business incorporation, miscellaneous agreements with respect to business transactions;
f. Drafting reporting letters to clients for lawyer review;
Complete legal research;
Track the time spent on a file (Esilaw);
Management of account receivables, including billing and collection thereof;
Management of legal assistant working in applicable files;
Involvement in the community;
Develop strategic alliances;
Participation in training offered by the firm; and
Travel as required to fulfill his or her responsibilities.
ABILITIES AND SKILLS SOUGHT
Applicants who meet the following requirements are encouraged to apply:
Member in good standing of the Law Society of Upper Canada;
1 to 3 years of experience in private practice would be an asset;
An already established clientele would be an asset;
Superior abilities in written and oral communication in both official languages;
Supervisory experience of staff;
Ability to work independently with minimum supervision;
Ability to work in a team and take charge of teamwork;
Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment;
Aptitude of attention to detail;
